The Research Fellow will join the Data Assimilation Group in the Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Section at the German Weather Service (DWD). She or he will work alongside DWD scientists, taking active part in research and development activities to assimilate satellite cloud information into a very high-resolution convection-permitting version of the NWP model COSMO.
The work will contribute to a priority project of the COSMO consortium (a cooperation between 7 European national weather services) to develop a novel, ensemble-based data assimilation system for the convection resolving scale (KENDA). The Fellow´s work will in particular be directed towards the derivation and assimilation of an incomplete 2-dimensional retrieval of cloud top and base height and the use of this retrieval as well as the direct use of cloudy satellite radiances from the SEVIRI instrument in KENDA.
